Where to Find Real Indian Street Food in Mississauga

If you’ve been typing “indian street food mississauga” into Google at 7pm on a Tuesday because nothing in your fridge sounds good, you’re not alone — and you’re in the right place. Pepper Fry sits on Matheson Blvd E, just minutes from Square One, and we’ve built our menu around one simple idea: food that tastes like it came off a street cart in Hyderabad or Vijayawada, not off a buffet line.

We’re not a general “Indian restaurant” trying to do a bit of everything. We specialize in Andhra and Hyderabadi cooking — the bold, chilli-forward, curry-leaf-heavy style of food that’s harder to find outside South India, let alone in Peel Region. That’s the gap we set out to fill when we opened, and it’s still what brings people back.

What Makes Pepper Fry Different

A lot of “Indian” menus in the GTA are built for a broad audience and end up tasting like nothing in particular. Ours isn’t. Our cooks come from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and the recipes on our menu — Guntur chicken, karampodi chicken, gongura mutton — are dishes they grew up eating, not dishes adapted for a Canadian palate.

That matters for a few reasons:

  • The spice is real. Guntur chillies aren’t shy, and we don’t tone them down unless you ask us to.
  • The rice is cooked the traditional way. Our dum biryani is layered and sealed, not just mixed rice with chicken thrown on top.
  • The menu is deep, not wide. You won’t find butter chicken buried next to 40 other dishes trying to please everyone. What we do, we do properly.

If you’ve eaten Andhra meals before and know what you’re looking for, you’ll recognize it here. If you haven’t, this is a good place to start.

A Quick Word on Where Biryani Actually Comes From

We get asked this a lot, so here’s the short version: biryani’s roots trace back to Persian traders and the Mughal courts of India, where layered rice-and-meat dishes were refined over centuries into the dish we know today. Hyderabad became one of its most famous homes under the Nizams, which is why “Hyderabadi biryani” carries so much weight on a menu. Andhra Pradesh, just next door, developed its own spicier, more tangy versions — think Ulavacharu and Gongura biryani, both of which are on our menu.

So when someone asks “where did biryani originate from” — the honest answer is that it’s a dish shaped by several regions over hundreds of years, and Hyderabad/Andhra is where it reached one of its most iconic forms. That’s the version we cook.

(For more on the dish’s history, Wikipedia’s overview of biryani is a solid starting point.)

The Menu, Broken Down

South Indian Breakfast & Tiffins

Rumali roti, Malabar parota, and a full dosa lineup — plain, masala, onion, ghee karam, even a pizza dosa if you’re feeling adventurous. This is the closest thing to an Andhra tiffin spot you’ll find in Mississauga.

Starters

Gobi Manchurian, crispy corn, chilli baby corn, Chicken 65 (wet or dry), and black pepper chicken. These are built for sharing — order two or three for the table.

Biryani

Our dum biryani is cooked the slow way — marinated meat, basmati rice, and whole spices, sealed and cooked together so the flavour actually sets in. Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani is our most-ordered dish, followed closely by Ulavacharu chicken and gongura mutton for anyone who wants something tangier.

Mandi

A Gulf-influenced rice dish that’s become a house specialty — chicken, mutton, or fish, slow-cooked and served over fragrant rice. Available in mini, medium, and large, so it works whether you’re eating solo or feeding the family.

Curries & Mains

Butter chicken and paneer butter masala for the traditionalists; Hyderabad chicken curry and Telangana mutton kura for anyone who wants the real deal.
